Here on the Aura blog she shares her thoughts on authenticity and gives us all some tips on how to start living an authentic life. Check her out on Instagram at to follow along on her journey.

I’ve been pondering a lot lately on this word and what it means to me. I believe there is true golden value behind this powerful state of being. To me, being authentic means living and giving my truth and doing what feels good and saying no to what doesn’t. It means living in a way that others may not totally agree with or doing things that others may not see value or purpose behind. Living a wholly authentic life isn’t something that comes naturally for everyone; but it certainly is a lifestyle that everyone should be working towards. Self doubt, anxieties and social standards can make it sometimes intimidating, though I can assure you -- if you start living in such a way, your life will drastically alter in a direction you maybe never thought possible.

For starters, when we become totally comfortable in our own skin, embracing our flaws and understanding what works for us and what doesn't work, we may find that we need to do a little eliminating. I like to refer to this process as gardening.

I’d like to paint a visual for you…

Imagine late spring, our flowers are in full bloom. We’re planting new flowers, embracing fresh blooms and of course, we are weeding out the pesky stuff.

Imagine the new flowers we’re planting as new intentions. The fresh blooms starting to poke up out of the ground are past goals, ambitions and dreams that are finally starting to flourish and come forth to you. Then lastly, we have the weeds. The weeds are people, places and things that no longer serve us purpose any longer. The weeds can spread like wildfire if we don’t keep on top of them. They can spread and unfortunately, they can slowly begin to smother off roots of the flowers we love and the new blooms that we are working towards growing and flourishing. Beautiful flowers don’t look very appealing beside old, rotted out plants and overgrown weeds.

The weeds are the situations and people in our lives that we need to pluck out. The weeds are the things that are stopping us or holding us back from being the authentic person that we wish to be. The weeds smother us off and can hold us back from moving forward to obtain the positive situation we are trying to manifest. The weeds can drain our energy and suck us dry if we aren’t aware and careful.

When we start to discover who we truly are, what we stand for and what we want our life to look like, you’ll start to have a lot of aphifanties and “ah’ha” moments. You may find that the situations and people you once partook in no longer serve you any purpose. Sometimes moving forward into your true self means sacrifice and elimination, and this can be difficult. Though if you stand true to your values and morals, that's when all the magic starts to happen. The right people and opportunities will all align with your dreams and ambitions. I'm sure you’ve all heard the saying “your vibe attracts your tribe.” Well, that statement proves 1000% true.

Maintain your garden dear ones, it needs constant love and care. Water your garden with all the magic and joy and make certain to worship it daily.  My biggest form of very simple advice that I can offer to you is that if it doesn’t feel like an equal energy exchange, it’s maybe not worth your time. Now sometimes, we must deal with people and situations we perhaps don’t care to. If this is the case, imagine your energy tucked away in a tiny little basket and set it aside when you’re dealing with the circumstances in life that you feel “take” from you. Guard yourself. Your time and energy is more valuable than all the money in the world.
