Amazonite - The hope stone

The colour of Amazonite varies from a pale green through to a deep turquoise green including blue-green color. It is a microcline feldspar. It's chemical formula is KAlSi3O8. Amazonite is a semi opaque blue-green variety of microcline, a form of alkali feldspar. The name ‘microcline’ comes from the Greek words micros, meaning ‘small’, and klino, meaning ‘lean’, because the cleavage planes in the stone deviate slightly from 90 degrees.. Amazonite is found in hydrothermal veins, pegmatites, granite pegmatites, schists and gneisses, and also as grains in sedimentary rocks. It is formed in deep-sea igneous rocks that once cooled very slowly.

HISTORY OF Amazonite

Amazonite has been used in jewelry and cut into beads since the time of the early Mesopotamian cultures. Well-known in India, Egypt, Sudan and Mesopotamia, it was a popular amulet stone and was once used as decorative material for building facades.

Amazonite was also worn as jewelry in pre-Columbian South and Central America, and was believed to have adorned the shields of the semi-mythical Amazonians, a tribe of female warriors thought to live in the 10th century B.C. Amazonite is named for the Amazon River in Brazil and the lush jungle region surrounding it where the original “green stones” were discovered.  However present day Mineralogists claim that no Amazonite exists in Brazil's Amazon river but it is found in Brazil. What likely happened was that nephrite jade was mistakenly identified as an amazonite rock and named after the river. Even today amazonite is often  confused with various other similar gemstones (mostly for jade, chrysoprase, chalcedony, serpentine, turquoise, or aventurine) but can usually be distinguished by testing for it's refractive index and density.

Amazonite is said to have a strong vibration and works powerfully through both the throat chakra and heart chakra.

Amazonite carries a strong energy that is able to stimulate the better emotions and personality traits. It is a strong stone for communication and speaking your truth, even in difficult situations. It is said to help align your speech to your higher ideals and keeps you calm when speaking, even if it is something you are passionate about. Your aggression will be lowered when angry with this stone. It also helps you see other's view point of a situation, helping your understanding and problem solving.

Keep you amazonite on at night or on your bedside table and look at the symbolism in dreams in the morning. This stone is said to help sooth and calm you, making for a great night sleep. It also helps you focus on the various components and your problems and help bring solutions to the surface in your dreams. It is also great for meditating and reflecting on your problems - hold your Aura amazonite in one hand while doing so. Meditating with Amazonite brings a keen awareness of everything to the consciousness. It inspires one to listen to and integrate all aspects of the self, and because it is a stone of truth, one can trust the visions, dreams and intuitions that surface while working with Amazonite.

Amazonite stimulates artistic ability, creativity and the powers of clairvoyance in its wearer.

Amazonite is also used as Barrier Filter crystal that blocks geopathic stress, absorbs microwaves and cell phone emanations, and protects against electromagnetic pollution.  Place it near computers and other electronics, or tape to your cell phone.

Most importantly, amazonite is said to inspire hope and confidence and also known as the 'hope stone'. It is said to help bring luck, money, and overall success to you  - making this a favorite gemstone of gamblers!

Amazonite gemstones may require some special care, because they are known to be vulnerable to pressure and scratches. Amazonite stones can be easily cleaned using warm water. Under extreme heat, amazonite can fade in color. Do not use any bleach or harsh chemicals when cleaning your gemstones and remove them when doing household chores. Keep your Aura Amazonite bracelet in it's box (by your bedside!) when not being worn.
